It is located within fifty miles northwest of the city of Cusco in south central Peru by the Cordillera de Vilcabamba to 6.271 meters above sea level (20.574 feet). Salkantay trek is a glacier whose summit is worshiped for thousands of years by Peruvian Indians. The name Salkantay is a Quechua word meaning “wild mountain”.

Tours Day 1:

Tour Cusco – Mollepata – Marcocasa – Soray Pampa

We pick you up at your hotel early in the morning and took a walk two hours to the town of Mollepata where we will have breakfast. After the words continue in our transport for one hour to Sayllapata where we start the beginning of our caminata.Llegaremos to Soray Pampa for lunch and stay here for the night in cabins or tents if you want to camp. In the afternoon you can relax and acclimatize or take a short hike to a glacial lake at the foot of Nevado Tucarhuay. At night we will rest, dine and enjoy the views of the Apu Salkantay.

After breakfast, we walk to the Abra Salkantay Pass situated at an altitude of 4,650 m = 15,252 ft From here we can see the panoramic views of the Cordillera Vilcabamba has to offer. Then down the other side of the pass to Huayracmachay, where we have lunch. In the afternoon we will descend to the Amazonian high forest, where you can observe the change of environment. In the afternoon we arrive at Challhuay where we will spend the night in cabins or tents if you want to camp.

In the morning we walk in 5 hours from the city of Playa. On the way you can observe the variety of flora and fauna, the climate becomes more tropical. Playa lunch and then take a taxi to Santa Teresa. Here we will be in a comfortable hostel. In the afternoon we visit the thermal baths of Ccocalmayo.

After breakfast we will take a local transport Hydroelectrica. From here we will walk for about two hours along the railway and reach Aguas Calientes “town of Machu Picchu.” We will check in our lodge and relax before our day at the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu. In due time we will meet for dinner and have a briefing on the next day at Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco

We wake up early and after breakfast, take a bus to Machu Picchu and then immediately begin a complete guided tour of the Inca archaeological complex of Machu Picchu. Then we have free time to explore the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, where you can climb Huayna Picchu, from where spectacular views of Machu Picchu, the valley and the surrounding mountains, visit the Temple of the Moon or the fabulous bridge seen Inca. We were handed the relegation bus tickets to the town of Aguas Calientes “town of Machu Picchu”, which optionally can visit and relax in its hot springs. In the afternoon or evening we will go by train to Ollantaytambo and then by public transport to the city of Cusco.
